We are very proud to be featured on the front cover of this month's Insight Magazine. Phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) is the preferred NDT technique around the globe for the inspection of ageing infrastructure, including rigs, refineries, pipelines, etc. The advantage of PAUT is that it provides more accurate and reliable inspection data compared to conventional methods of detection. The main disadvantage is the substantial cost of equipment, which is preventing PAUT from becoming mainstream. The front cover this month shows the new iProbePA® from Hi-Spec Systems, which the company claims is the world’s first digital phased array system in a probe and the smallest, lightest and most portable phased array system ever produced. Simply connect the iProbePA to a tablet or notebook computer via its integral USB interface and, together with the simple, yet powerful, UltraPhase® software, the user can start scanning with minimal training. By removing the need for a heavy, bulky and expensive instrument, Hi-Spec Systems has been able to significantly reduce the cost of equipment for PAUT, which will allow it to become the de facto technique for NDT.
